Winner of Bidimensional Art Salon // Gonzalo Fuenmayor

Gonzalo Fuenmayor was chosen as one of the 4 winners of this year’s 6th Bidimensional Art Salon, held at Gilberto Alzate Avendaño Foundation in Bogota, Colombia.  This prominent national contest, established since 2003,  highlights the contemporary production of two dimensional work in painting, drawing, photography and printmaking in Colombia.  310 artists applied, 38 were chosen, and Fuenmayor was among the 4 winners.  $40 million pesos (around 20 thousand dollars) were distributed among the winning artists, and their works will become part of Gilberto Alzate Avendaño's Private Collection.

Fuenmayor’s proposal featured a large format photograph of a victorian chandelier organically attached to a banana bunch in the midst of a banana plantation.   The theatricality and dramatic nature of the imagery, subordinates the contradictory into a delicate and imaginative order, evoking a certain kind of reconciliation or tense harmony between two disjointed realities, where opulence, decadence and exploitation come together.

The exhibition will be open to the public  from November 1st until January 14th.
