Johnny Robles // Recess

Johnny Robles

“Recess”, works by Johnny Robles

Miami’s young emerging Johnny Robles will be exhibiting at Dot Fiftyone’s Galley Project Room one large scale interactive installation titled “Spring Rider 2”, along with this installation the artist will be showing his most recent drawings and a wall piece called “Sling Shots”

Johnny Robles born in 1984, Miami based painter and sculptor; the artist approaches life and his work with a reserved, collective and methodical rationale that’s apparent in his developing collection. He works with various media, and his range varies from small scale drawings to large murals.

Recent studies have taken him to the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), where he received his BFA in 2006. He also studied in the Studio Art Center International in Florence, Italy, which plays an apparent classical influence in his work. The saturated color palette and immaculate composition appeal to the viewer’s intellect, while the technique appeals to the senses. This classical style of drawing is juxtaposed with contemporary urban iconography. His work is filled with opposition; chaos/nostalgia light/shadow… which are carefully balanced. Objects seem to interact and defy laws of physics. He creates visual conundrums for the viewer and even himself.

Robles’, themes derive inspiration from shapes made or changed by nature, nostalgic visions of childhood and the spiritual world. He creates from memories and reinterprets them, exploring complex paradigms such as fear, gratification, detachment, fantasy, self-absorption, innocence, reflection, and Nostalgia. The impulse toward story-telling in his drawings, paintings, and sculptures is set-off against the immediacy of his precise, compelling imagery.

He currently lives and works in Miami, Fl.
